An aqueous emulsion adhesive obtainable by blending a polyvinyl alcohol and a compound or polymer having isocyanate groups with an aqueous emulsion, which aqueous emulsion comprises an ethylene-vinyl acetate-vinyl chloride type copolymer having a glass transition temperature from -10 to +40 DEG C and comprising 2 to 40% by weight of ethylene, 3 to 93% by weight of vinyl acetate and 5 to 85% by weight of vinyl chloride, said copolymer being obtainable by polymerization in the presence of an emulsifier consisting essentially of 2 to 13 parts by weight of a polyvinyl alcohol based on 100 parts by weight of the total amount of vinyl acetate and vinyl chloride.
