PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an optional mode Rosen-type piezoelectric transformer which is capable of enlarging an input electrode in area so as to be improved in input capacitance enhancing a current which flows into an input electrode even if alternating current signals of low voltage are inputted, and outputting a higher voltage. SOLUTION: A Rosen-type piezoelectric transformer ofλ/2 mode is provided with an input electrode formed on its primary surface covering it above half as much in area, whereby the transformer can be enhanced in input capacitance, so that it is lessened in input impedance. A current which flows into an input electrode 1 can be enhanced in quantity even if alternating current signals of low voltage are inputted, so that the piezoelectric transformer is capable of outputting a higher AC voltage. If a step-up circuit is provided, an electromagnetic transformer which is used for stepping up an input AC voltage can be dispensed with.
