MAGNETIC RECORDING MEDIUM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a magnetic recording medium capable of suppressing the deterioration of its recording and reproducing characteristics during storage while increasing output. SOLUTION: This recording medium 1 consists of a nonmagnetic substrate 2, a magnetic layer 3 formed on one side of the substrate 2 and a back coating layer 4 formed on the other side. The center line surface roughness of the magnetic layer 3 is 1-5nm and that of the back coating layer 4 is 2-6nm. The layer 4 preferably contains fine particle-shaped carbon black having 0.01-0.037μm average particle size and coarse particle carbon black having 0.05-0.17μm average particle size in a weight ratio of 97:3 to 90:10.
