A method of making a lithium-vanadium-phosphate compound, comprising the steps of forming a mixture of a lithium-containing compound, at least one vanadium oxide compound, and a phosphoric acid-containing compound; and heating the mixture at a temperature and for a time sufficient to form a lithium-vanadium-phosphate compound.
