An electric fan which includes a single air moving fan vane (17), a motor (53) for generating power, transmission apparatus (56, 65, 76) for converting the power to motion, and a power output mechanism (16) for moving the single vane (17) simultaneously in two directions such that the vane (17) moves with a waving motion. The fan further includes a base member (11), a wrist assembly (12) that can be moved in two directions relative to the base member (11), a motor (53) and motion transferring mechanism (200), and the power output mechanism (16). The base member (11) can be mounted on a wall, on the floor or desk, or hang from the ceiling.
