PURPOSE: A brake for a sudden stoppage of a power press is provided to prevent an accident and to release the load occurring when an actuator pin is in contact with a guide pin. CONSTITUTION: A guide pin(22) for sudden stoppage is formed between a top dead center and a lower dead center of a cylindrical clutch(20). The guide pin is in contact with an actuator pin(31) when a slide descends. A clutch(20) is displaced from a coupling(14) and the slide stops rapidly. Thereby, an accident is avoided. Further, the friction or load due to contact of the actuator pin with the guide pin is minimized. According to the friction minimization, abnormal abrasion of elements is prevented and the life span is lengthened.
