PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pump capable of increasing capacity of the pump (discharge amount), by preventing the adverse effect on a pump impeller caused by cavitation even increasing the number of rotations of the pump impeller, capable of preventing increase of the capacity of a pump prime mover, and of reducing power consumption. SOLUTION: The pump impeller 2 fixed on a main shaft 1 is rotatably housed in an impeller chamber 3. A suction pipe 5 is connected to the upstream side of the impeller chamber 3, and a column pipe 4 is connected to the downstream side of the impeller chamber 3. In the suction pipe 5 of a vertical pump, an inducer impeller 8 and a prime mover 10 for driving the inducer impeller driving to rotate the inducer impeller 8 are disposed, and a diffuser 9 is disposed at the downstream side of the inducer impeller 8. When the pump capacity (discharge amount) is increased by high rotational speed of the pump impeller 2, the prime mover for driving the inducer impeller 10 rotates the inducer impeller 8 independently to prevent the adverse effect on the pump impeller 2 caused by the cavitation.
