PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and mechanism for surely, quickly and simply cleaning the connection end face of an optical connector. SOLUTION: When a body 24 provided with an attachment 3 suited to the shapes of an optical connector 1 and an optical connector housing 2, a cleaning rod 4 formed by a resin material softer than the material of an optical fiber, having a shape capable of easily generating an air flow due to rotation and allowed to be rotated in a state slightly deflected from the center of the connector 1 and a mechanism capable of rotating the cleaning rod 4 simultaneously with the depression of the rod 4 in a coaxial direction and having previously determined depressing force, is arranged coaxially with the connector 1, the rod 4 is brought into contact with the connection end face of the connector 1 by the fixed depressing force and dust stuck to the connection end face of the connector 1 is removed. The cleaning mechanism can be simply handled by one hand and the skillfullness of operation is not required.
