PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for calculating an areal rate with good operating efficiency capable of obtaining accurate data irrespective of a difference of a printing plate surface without fault in a hardware or other fault without necessity of a large operating space. SOLUTION: The method for calculating an areal rate comprises the steps of laying out character data CC and image data CD at a page unit by a layout scanner 12, then reading a character areal rate corresponding to the data CC paged from an areal rate conversion table 11, and reading an areal rate corresponding to the data CD paged from an areal rate conversion table 13. The method further comprises the steps of totalizing the character areal rate and the image areal rate according to layout information by an areal rate totalizing means 14, and calculating a press plate areal rate of a part to be printed at each predetermined area of the plate according to an areal rate of its page unit by a press plate areal rate calculating means 15. |
