PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To keep a liquid level of a liquid in a fixed height, irrespective of a kind of the liquid stored in a container. SOLUTION: In this flow-out detecting method of the present invention, moving of a metal piece (non-sensing member) 5c supported to be movable pushed by a substance flowing out from a flow-out port 4a is detected to determine the presence of the flow-out of the substance from the flow-out port 4a. In this liquid level maintaining method, the liquid is supplied to the container having a discharge port for discharging the liquid supplied excessively when the liquid level is kept at the fixed height in the container, the presence of the flow-out of the liquid in the flow-out port 4a of the flow passage connected to the discharge port is detected by the flow-out detecting method in the present invention, and no new supply of the liquid into the container is determined when no flow-out of the liquid from the flow-out port 4a is determined by the flow-out detecting means.
