PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a refining process capable of inexpensively obtaining, in a high yield, an acrylamidoalkanesulfonic acid which does not contain the impurities being polymerization inhibitors and thus enables production of a high molecular weight copolymer usable as a polymeric flocculant or the like when coplymerizing the obtained refined subject acid or its salt with acrylamide or the like. SOLUTION: This refining process comprises reusing, as a recrystallization solvent for acrylamidoalkanesulfonic acid, a filtrate generated by the recrystallization of the subject acid using a lower alcohol as a solvent.
