PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for binding an article to be packed with a band by which the work of binding the article to be packed with the band is efficiently performed and burden on a worker is reduced. SOLUTION: The apparatus for binding the band on the article to be packed with the band is constituted in such a way that one end of a steel belt 18 is sent into a space 54 under a pallet of the pallet 50 on which the article 60 to be packed is carried from an inlet 54a of the space 54 under the pallet and is sent out from an outlet 54b by a transferring means 10, and an end part of the band 70 is hooked on the one end of the steel belt 18 sent out from the outlet 54b, and thereafter, the one end of the steel belt 18 is retreated and pulled back at least until the end part of the band 70 is pulled out from the inlet 54a.
