<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress the pulsation of an engine (variation in engine speed) produced instantaneously when a load is applied to and released from the engine by torque assist by a motor and generation by a generator and prevent the charged amount of a storage device from becoming insufficient due to the unbalance of the profit and loss of the charging and discharging of the storage device. <P>SOLUTION: In this hybrid system, a rotational speed corresponding to a load applied to an engine 2 is set to a target rotational speed. When a variation in the actual speed of the engine 2 from the target speed exceeds a specified value, charging into a storage device 14 is performed by torque assistance by a motor generator 40 or generation by the motor generator 40 to maintain an engine speed variation rate due to a variation in load of the engine 2 within a specified range.
