<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical fiber drawing apparatus with a simple structure, enabling the maintenance of internal sealing of a reactor tube even if the outside diameter of a preform is largely different, and also to provide an optical fiber drawing method. <P>SOLUTION: The optical fiber drawing apparatus 10 is equipped with a sealing mechanism comprising an inside sealing ring 16 constituted by connecting a plurality of sealing ring portions inside, an outside sealing ring 17 constituted by connecting a plurality of sealing ring portions outside positioned at the outer periphery of the above ring 16 and an elastic spring 18 positioned at the outer periphery of the above ring 17. The connected part of the sealing ring portions inside and the connected part of the sealing ring portions outside are arranged so that they do not overlap. The inside diameter of the ring 16 can be varied according to the outside diameter in the perpendicular direction of a preform 1 for drawing. Since the force is exerted toward the center of the ring 16 by the elastic spring 18, the inner periphery of the ring 16 is always air-tightly attached to the preform 1.
