METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR PLAYING OVERLAY GRAPHICS AND TEXT DATA

The present application relates to an apparatus for enhancing navigation and interactivity in an (EVD) system that comprises an extended overlay graphics and text (OGT) interpreter for parsing (OGT) extended database date: an (OGT) layout manager for receiving the parsed (OGT) database data and video data, wherein the (OGT) layout manager determines the positions and overlapping of the parsed (OGT) extended database data and the video data under the control of the extended (OGT) interpreter; and a mixer for mixing the video data and the parsed (OGT) extended database for presentation. The apparatus of the present application supports advanced navigation like seamless branching, multi-story, language credits or director' s cuts and enhanced interactivity like synchronizing a game with video playing so that the requirements of the third generation disc can be realized.
