PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an output image with a prescribed gradation by applying gradation transformation to an X-ray image. SOLUTION: A void image area elimination means 101 eliminates void image areas from a received image, a histogram generating means 102 generates a density histogram of the image area from which the image lost area is eliminated. An unevenness part extract means 103 extracts an unevenness part of the generated density histogram and an analysis means 104 uses information of the extracted unevenness part to calculate a feature variable for revising a dynamic range. A smoothing means 106 smoothes the received image, and a revision means 107 revises the density of the image based on the feature quantity obtained by the analysis means 104 and the smoothed image obtained by the smoothing means 106.
