PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical scanner constituted so that the bend of a scanning line and its variation due to the deformation of an optical case are reduced as mach as possible, and to provide an image forming apparatus using the optical scanner. SOLUTION: The variation in a mirror and a focusing optical element due to the deformation of the optical case satisfies the relationΔZ=L×2×Δθ, whereΔZ stands for the variation in the arranged position of the focusing optical element which is arranged at the side closest to a medium to be scanned in the direction orthogonal to a deflecting and scanning plane (subscanning direction), L stands for the gap between the mirror and the focusing optical element which is arranged at the side closest to the medium to be scanned, andΔθstands for the variation in the tilt angle of the mirror with respect to the direction orthogonal to the deflecting and scanning plane (subscanning direction) due to a thermal deformation.
