PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable users to simultaneously and easily verify speed limit information and congestion information of roads on a road map displayed, on a road map display apparatus for vehicles. SOLUTION: Roads having speed limit differences, road type differences, and road width differences each of which do not exceed set values and roads having inclination differences which do not exceed a prescribed value are selected to a road where a vehicle is currently moving as roads of which congestion information is to be acquired and determined from among the roads to be displayed, with the addition of speed limit information on a display screen of the display apparatus and roads connected to the roads to be displayed within a set distance from a current position of the vehicle (i.e., roads within a range of congestion information search). When congestion information to selected roads is acquired, speed limit information to be displayed on the display screen of the roads as the roads of which the display is to be changed over are changed over from a normal display form to such a congestion display form (such as a display form circled in red) as to enable users, to detect the congestion information, at a glance.
