PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To set destinations complying with user's demands easily and without increasing running costs. SOLUTION: A user of the car navigation device 1 can set one's own desired pieces out of intrinsic information (the name of facilities, the color of signs, or the like) displayed on roadside signs in accordance with user operations through an input device 8. A control device 3 extracts a candidate for an image which can be regarded as a sign out of photographed images by an in-car camera 10 which can photograph areas surrounding one's own car and recognizes the intrinsic information in the candidate image. When the recognized intrinsic information and the search target set by the user coincide with each other, the control device 3 creates destination information including information which can identify an object displayed on the sign on the basis of the intrinsic information and the present position information of one's own car and location information and allows the destination information to be stored in a map database in a storage device 4.
