PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control unit for an AC/AC direct converter, with cost effectiveness and reliability, capable of preventing commutation failure without adding a new component by minimizing high-speed detection devices for input voltage and output current so as to select a commutation pattern, and of reducing losses and torque pulsation in a motor as a load by compensating for an error of the output voltage generated by the commutation. SOLUTION: This control device for an AC/AC direct converter includes: the input voltage detection device 51 and the output current detection device 53 of the AC/AC direct converter; a device 52 for operating an output voltage command value from the detected values; a device 54 for operating the PWM pulse of a two-way switch from the output voltage command value; and a commutation pattern generating device 56 for generating a predetermined switching pattern according to the PWM pulse. The commutation pattern generating device 56 selectable between a commutation pattern for voltage commutation and that for current commutation obtains either of the input voltage information or the output current information from a detected value input to the output voltage command operating device 52.
