The device has two parts or subsystems one is hardware for measuring lubricant temperatures at the entrance and exit of the bearings. Another is software for the prosecution of temperature measurements to estimate the mechanical load. The hardware subsystem has an oil temperature sensor at the entrance of the bearings, and a sensor for every major bearing on each bearing. An acquisition or data capturing unit is also provided. The software subsystem has an algorithm for estimating the load mechanics based on measurements of lubricant temperature at the entrance and exit of bearings. An independent claim is also included for a method for measurement in load bearings.
