A pharmaceutical composition for preventing and treating diabetes comprises dried powder or extract of Stichpus japonicas as an active ingredient. The Stichpus japonicas is included in Phylum Echinodermata, Class Holothuroidea, Order Aspidochirotida, and Stichopus japonicus Selenka. The content of dried powder or extract of Stichpus japonicas is 0.1-50 weight% based on the total weight.
