The present invention relates to a composition containing medium-chain fatty acids or salts or mono-, di-, triglycerides, esters or amide derivatives of medium-chain fatty acids for use as a feed additive for animals, in an optimized ratio. In a second and third aspect, the invention concerns an animal feed, supplemented with the composition containing the medium-chain fatty acids or derivatives and a method for feeding animals with the animal feed.

di-, triglycerides, esters or amides thereof for use as a feed additive for animals, the composition comprising caproic acid (C6), caprylic acid (C8), capric acid (C10) and lauric acid (C12), wherein the ratio between the sum of caprylic acid, capric acid and lauric acid (C8+C10+C12) and the total sum of medium-chain fatty acids in the composition is more than 0.8.
