Streamline flow bows thruster - uses propeller mounted in diverging, elongated profile ducts across bow of ship

The bows thruster has an impeller (5) mounted midships in a transverse duct across the hull. The duct is circular in the middle section to accommodate the impeller, and has a flattened, horizontal profile (9) at each end. The flat profile duct widens towards the exit ports w.r.t. a horizontal plane. This prevents the build-up of low pressure areas on the downstream side of the expelled thrust stream when the shis is moving ahead or astern while the thrusters are operated. The thrusters can thus operate more efficiently.
