<p>In an apparatus for manufacturing a folded ply for use in a vehicle pneumatic tyre, particularly a tyre belt, by wrapping at least one edge along a circular fold line of a cord embedded in a rubber mixture and wound on a cylindrical drum of reducible diameter with at least one inflatable bellows laying laterally for wrapping, a ring displaceable coaxially to the drum and surrounding but spaced from this has a support edge of reducible diameter which can be pressed on the wound on cord circularly along the fold line. Advantageously the support edge is constructed from a series of adjacent situated claw-type segment pivoted on the ring with their free ends on the fold line. Overcomes the difficulty that in the case of cords of high stiffness, e.g. thick strand steel cord cannot be folded accurately with non-reinforced inflatable bellows.</p> |
