<p>1449749α-Carboxypenicillins BEECHAM GROUP Ltd 12 May 1975 [20 June 1974] 27358/74 Heading C2C Penicillins of the Formula (II) wherein R is a phenyl, thienyl or furyl group which may contain a C 1-6 alkyl or halo-substituent; R<SP>1</SP> is hydrogen, a salt-forming cation or a C 1-12 hydrocarbon group and R<SP>11</SP> is hydrogen or a salt-forming cation, are obtained by reacting a substituted malonic acid halide of Formula (III) wherein X is Cl or Br, with 6-aminopenicillanic acid in an aqueous acid medium at a pH of from 0À5 to 2À5 and at a temperature of from - 50‹ to +20‹ C., and thereafter if necessary and if desired converting one group R<SP>1</SP> and/or R<SP>11</SP> to another group R<SP>1</SP> and/or R<SP>11</SP> by conventional methods.</p> |
