Optical fibre connector comprises three or more parallel inner rods (22) in mutual contact so as to form between them a cylindrical opening (24) in which is disposed an optical fibre (18). A clamping sleeve (12) surrounds the rods. Three or more outer rods (14) are fixed to the inner surface of the clamping sleeve, with e.g. epoxy resin and have a dia. greater than that of the inner rods and selected so as to apply a force resulting from compression to the inner rods. The dia. of the outer rods pref. ensures contact between each outer rod and a pair of adjacent inner rods, over their whole length, when the inner rods are inserted between the outer rods. Extensive machining of the connector components, with close critical tolerances, is avoided, and the connector consists of economical readily available precision components. |
