The apparatus for guiding or mounting roller chains for scraper units, ship unloaders or the like has guide sections (4) in the region of vertically provided chain drive wheels and chain take-up star wheels substantially between the vertical axis of the chain drive wheel (1) and the vertical axis of the chain take-up star wheel (2), both in the upper strand and in the lower strand, engaging around the roller chain (3) along the latter. Vertically designed guide tongues (5) are provided between these guide sections (4) and the axial region of the drive and take-up wheels. Both the guide sections (4) and the guide tongues (5) are mounted in a stationary manner on the frame of the device, by means of which the translatory movement is converted to a rotary movement for the roller chain (3) by means of the positive guidance. <IMAGE>
