The coupling element (10) is used for connecting two pipes (P), in the case of which coupling element (10) decoupling is also very simple and easy. A circumferential groove (G) is cut in each pipe, close to its end. The body of the coupling element (10) is a cylindrical hollow body. An outwardly bevelled groove (14, 15) is located over the entire internal circumference of the body, close to the ends of said hollow body. A second groove (16, 17), which runs parallel thereto and has a rectangular cross-section, is located further inside the body. Located in this second groove (16, 17) is a sealing ring (18, 19). A circlip (20, 21) is inserted into the groove (G) in the pipe (P). A sleeve (22) is provided in order to release the pipe connection, which sleeve (22) surrounds the pipe (P) over three-quarters of a circle and whose thickness is such that it can be pushed in between the pipe (P) and the inner wall of the hollow body (10). This sleeve can grip under the circlip (21) and lift it out of the groove (G), so that the pipe (P) can be withdrawn. For improved handling, the sleeve (22) has a handle (23). <IMAGE>
