PURPOSE:To realize a by-passing function by using a small number of optical switches by disposing a mirror plate between optical switches which each consists of two fiber arrays fitted with lenses, and varying the inclination of the mirror plate. CONSTITUTION:Four terminal stations A-D each having a transmission part 1 and a reception part 2 are linked by optical fibers 3 and optical switches are arranged at the respective terminal stations. Each optical fiber is constituted by forming fiber arrays of fibers 4-6 and 7-9, fitting self-converging lenses 10 and 11 thereto, and arranging the mirror plate 12 between them while the fibers 5 and 9 are connected together previously. The mirror plate 12 is normally at a solid-line position to connect the fibers 4 and 6 to the fibers 7 and 8, but if a fault occurs at a terminal station A, the mirror plate 12 is switched to a broken-line position to connect the fibers 4 and 5 to the fibers 7 and 9, by- passing the station A while the function of the whole system is maintained. Consequently, the by-passing function is realized by a small number of optical switches. |
