PURPOSE:To eliminate waste of recording sheets due to miscopy by automatically detecting the size of a document according to the movement of a document regulating plate of a document feed portion and automatically selecting a recording sheet of a suitable size according to the result of detection. CONSTITUTION:In case of making a copy, a document 13 of A-4 size, for example, is placed on a document feed table 12, and one document regulating plate 18a is moved in direction of X in such a manner as to be aligned with one side of the document 13, so that the other document regulating plate 18b is automatically moved in direction of Y through engagement of a pinion gear with a rack to support the document between both regulating plates 18a, 18b. Simultaneously, with the movement of the regulating plate 18a, a potential difference corresponding to A-4 size is input from a variable resistor 23 to a control unit 26. In this arrangement, the control unit 26 is adapted to select a cassette device storing recording sheets of A-4 size according to data from size readers 24a, 24b and set the corresponding sheet feed roller 28a or 28b at a sheet feed position. |
