PURPOSE:To print out extremely clear characters by providing a character plate exposing system for printing characters in addition to a CRT exposing system. CONSTITUTION:If a print key on a keyboard 20 is turned on after confirming a color image by a color monitor 27, a timer 41 is driven and a changeover switch circuit 25 is turned to the printing CRT 29 side. After the passage of time required for stabilizing the light emitting luminance of the CRT 29, the timer 41 sends a signal to a light source lighting circuit 48 to light up a light source for a character printing unit 47 for a prescribed time to print out characters formed on a character plate to color printing paper 35. Simultaneously with the start of light emission of the CRT 29, a CRT driving circuit 28 sends an image signal to the printing CRT 29 and the circuit 29 successively displays synthesized images of respective colors as a monochromatic image in stead of a color monitor 27. In synchronization with said display, a color filter is inserted and a color image is printed out on the color printing paper 35 based on a three-color plane successive exposure system.
