PURPOSE:To bring a type wheel to a halt positively on a printing position, by a method wherein the position of the type wheel is regulated relatively to that of a selective ratchet rotatably set thereto with use of regulating pins provided on either of the two and engaging holes provided on the other one. CONSTITUTION:In a type selection, when a selective ratchet 6 is brought to a halt by a selective click 25, a drive click 20 is rotated integrally with a drive shaft 2 and a type wheel 5 to come into collision with either of engaging portions 16, 17 on the selective ratchet 6 in a halt state, which results in disengagement of a cutout portion 3 on the drive shaft 2 from a projection 21 on the drive click 20 and therefore discontinued transmission of the rotating force of the drive shaft 2 to a type wheel 5. Simultaneously, the regulating pins 11, 12 provided on either of the type wheel 5 and the selective ratchet 6 are brought into collision with the ends of engaging holes 18, 19 provided on the other one, which positively hold the type wheel 5 on a desired type selection position.
