PURPOSE:To obtain a conveying device which performs double feed during first separation and which hardly breaks a sheet separated during secondary separation, by forming the arrangement of first feed means and separating means to be identical wit the arrangement of second feed means and separating means. CONSTITUTION:There are provided a feed roller 253, a separating roller 265, a feed roller 257 and a separating roller 265 to conduct two stage separation. The arrangement of the first feed roller 253 and the separating rollers 265 for first stage separation is made to be identical with the arrangement of the second feed roller 257 and the separating roller 269 for second stage separation. Accordingly, even if a sheet subjected to double feed during first stage separation is subjected to second stage separation by the separating roller 269 for separating the same, the separating roller 265 for first stage separation is rotated at a speed equal to that of the separating roller 269 for second stage separation, and therefore, the sheet separated by the separating roller 269 is directly fed rearward by the separating roller 265 so that the double-fed sheet is prevented from being broken. Accordingly, it is possible to provide a sheet conveying device that hardly breaks a sheet which is double-fed during first stage separation and separated during the second stage separation.
