PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate operation for modifying attributes by providing means for modifying set information of specified attributes of layout or character unit stored in an attribute information memory means according to a cyclic modification order. SOLUTION: A character size entrust key 11b is provided in order to start modification processing of individual paragraph style data without using a select menu screen. Upon recognizing operation of the character size entrust key 11b, a CPU 21 takes out the data of character size of each line from the individual paragraph style data for the paragraph where a cursor had been located during operation. A decision is then made whether that data is a kind of character size entrust style data or not and the character size of the data is modified if it is a kind of character size entrust style data. According to the arrangement, specified attributes concerning to the layout of each character in an input character sequence or the information of specified attributes of character unit can be modified without using a select menu screen and thereby operability is enhanced when the attribute information is modified.
