The invention relates to the automatic formation of the systematic name of a chemical compound or a part thereof directly from its structural formula or conversely the structural formula or a part thereof from a name for a chemical compound, by use of a computer. In the first case the structural formula is analyzed into structural elements in a computer of a single- or multi-user system. The elements are designated by standardized terms (morphemes), which are assembled according to a formalism to systematic names. In the converse case, the name is analyzed into standardized part-names (morphemes) in the computer. The part-names are expressed by corresponding structural elements and assembled according to a formalism to the structural formula (whole formula). The outputting of the systematic name or the formula follows alone or together with other information on the screen or via printer/plotter or other recording medium. The process can be used alone or in industry and commerce, production, research and teaching. Previously known processes require the representation of the chemical constitution (name or formula) in matrix form as an intermediate step. <IMAGE> |
