The rotary damper comprises a plate-type housing (1) with a circular recess(2), inside which the rotor (6,7) turns. A shaft(8) on the latter extends outside the recess and is driven. An annular elastic component (10) extends round the inner periphery of the recess, while notches (11) in the outer periphery of the rotor accommodate rollers (12) working against the elastic component. Each notch can be oblong, extending in the peripheral direction of the rotor, its depth varying gradually from one end to the other. ADVANTAGE - No oil leaks, being particularly for damping movement of a glove-box lid or ashtray in a car.
