The burner has a valve body, a burner head, and a nozzle whose heating passage are connected via a distribution passage to a feed passage for the mixture of combustion gas and heating oxygen. The cutting-oxygen passage is connected to a feed passage for this oxygen, and the ignition-gas passage is connected to the distribution passage or the mixture feed passage. One or more valves (47) are incorporated in the ignition-gas passage (29). The valve can be preceded by a flame-trap (42) and followed by an adjusting valve (48) or baffle. The ignition-gas passage can be taken from the distribution passage (45) out of the valve body (11) and back into the burner and as far as the head (12), where it discharges into the feed passage (16) for the cutting oxygen.
