The mounting for stairs, in a building, has a wall anchor (3) to secure the step or tread (2) at the wall (1) of the building. The anchor (3) has a steel bolt (4) with one end in the tread (2) and the other end anchored in a drilling (6) in the wall. A sleeve (5), of rubber or pliable plastics, has an inner passage (7) to take the other end of the bolt (4), and is bonded in place by vulcanising. The passage (7) through the sleeve (5) is offset from its centre axis.
