The inverter has a mains rectifier (1) supplying a high frequency chopper (2) that delivers current to a series resonant inductor (3) and capacitor (4). The load (5) is connected between the junction of inductor and capacitor and the junction of two series diodes (6a,6b) which act as a rectifier to charge a capacitor (7) that returns current through a diode (8) to the chopper supply rail (CD).
