PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To actualize a display image corresponding to the aspect ratio of the original television signal by a liquid crystal display device. SOLUTION: An image, having a proper aspect ratio, is displayed on the effective screen 1a of a display panel 1 by varying the longitudinal/lateral ratio of unit pixels 2, formed on the effective screen 1a according to the ratio of the number of vertical pixels and the number of horizontal pixels of frame image data obtained by digitally converting a television signal of, for example, the NTSC system into a specific format and the image aspect ratio of the NTSC system.
