PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attempt complete prevention of quality deterioration of water in a tank by improving the physical and biological filtering performance of a filter medium and thereby make water replacement unnecessary, and permit efficient removal of yellowing of water through improvement of the adsorbing capacity of the colorant of the bait by ensuring adhesion of powder of active charcoal to a filter medium. SOLUTION: The filter medium consists of a sponge having open cells of a pore diameter of 10-100μm. The material captures not only coarse pollutants, e.g. excrement and residual bait, but also minute organisms, e.g. algae, pathogens and microorganisms. The microorganisms decompose and eliminate algae and so on. Another filter medium consists of a sponge having open cells of a pore diameter of 10-100μm and adhered with powder of activated charcoal.
