PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for generating a magnetic field for MRI which is applicable to various magnetic field generators and can prevent permanent magnets constituting permanent magnet groups from being separated. SOLUTION: The apparatus 10 for generating the magnetic field for MRI includes a pair of permanent magnet groups 14a, 14b. The pair of permanent magnet groups 14a, 14b comprise a plurality of permanent magnets 20 to be respectively and mutually bonded, and are arranged oppositely with gap formed. The permanent magnet groups 14a, 14b are provided with projections 18 to be projected outward from contact parts with magnetic polar pieces 16a, 16b. A flange shape member 34 is attached on the outer peripheral surfaces of the magnetic polar pieces 16a, 16b, so as to cover the gap side surfaces 18a of the projections 18.
