PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase precision in face detection when capturing an image under a backlight environment. SOLUTION: A face region is detected for an image signal obtained by converting object light photoelectrically. When imaging processing, such as autofocus and automatic exposure adjustment, is performed corresponding to the detected face region, the date and time in imaging are counted. The position in imaging is calculated. An orientation to the lens optical axis of an imaging apparatus is detected. The counted date and time information and the calculated current position information are used for calculating the position of the sun in imaging. When it is determined that the calculated position of the sun exists in the orientation on the lens optical axis, the gain of the image signal is amplified by a prescribed value.
