摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To lower fluctuation in wavelength dispersion of a transmission path due to repairing of failure and reduce the system margin by providing a structure for inserting a wavelength dispersion compensating device to a submarine optical cable to compensate wavelength dispersion inside. SOLUTION: Opposed optical cables 23 are inserted into a pressure-proof cylinder 36 and a central tensile strength body of the optical cable 23 is fixed to a central tensile strength body anchoring part 30 in the center of a junction box. A tape core wire is pulled out from a slot in the optical cable 23, an inner layer cylinder 24 is installed, and from a hole arranged in the inner layer cylinder 24, the optical fiber core wire is pulled out. For using as dispersion compensating devices, a dispersion compensating fiber 26 and a single mold fiber 28 are wound on small reels 27, 29, and in each core wire, 32 reels are arranged at every 1 ps within a range from -16 ps to +16 ps. When repairing a failure, dispersion of the cut back optical cable 23 is measured, and a dispersion compensating amount of the dispersion compensating device inserted in the junction box is compared with a dispersion value of the cut in optical cable 23 inserted so as to be optimized.
