<p>1306277 Discharge treatment of plastics UNION CARBIDE CORP 29 Sept 1970 [30 Sept 1969] 46333/70 Heading H1X In a method of treating plastics by exposure to a high intensity voltage accompanied by corona discharge, said voltage comprises a series of alternating-directional, impulsive sonic frequency burats, i.e. a waveform which varies cyclically at a sonic frequency, each cycle comprising an impulse of one polarity followed by an impulse of opposite polarity, each impulse having a duration short compared with the cycle period. The apparatus shown includes a circuit arrangement comprising a source 12 of variable D.C. and a timing circuit 40 supplying gating pulses to an output circuit 15 connected to the loading treating circuit 52. The circuit is a modification of that described in Specification 1,252,935 and includes the variable resistors 49 and 50 for frequency variation described in Specification 1,306,276. An alternative circuit arrangement (Fig. 4, not shown) including a rectifier circuit, a timing circuit, an isolation stage, a multivibrator circuit and an output stage is described.</p> |
