<p>1299668 Pipe couplings USS ENGINEERS & CONSULTANTS Inc 1 May 1970 [1 May 1969] 21097/70 Heading F2G A tube 32 is supported for horizontal shift in an opening 14 of a receiving vessel 12 and cooperating cams are provided on the supporting means and on a teeming vessel 10 for automatically moving the tube into alignment with an outlet opening 13 of the teeming vessel. First the vessels 10, 12 are approximately aligned as shown then the piston rods 24 are projected from cylinders 23 to raise the bearing 25 and thus the plate 29 and tube 32. The plate 29 may have a finger 33 to co-operate with stops 34 in limiting rotational movement of the plate and tube 32 with respect to the bearing 25 while allowing some linear shift. The bevelled edge 38 of the plate 29 contacts one or two bevelled edges 40 of guides 39 on the teeming vessel 10 whereby the plate and tube 32 shift horizontally toward a position of alignment with the opening 13. Further actuation of pistons 24 places tongues 44 in engagement with cam surfaces 43 then grooves 42 of blocks 41 for further alignment, final alignment being achieved when the two halves 16, 18 of a sliding gate closure engage. Thereafter the gates 16, 18 may be shifted to teem material into the receiving vessel. The mechanism may be employed in the vacuum de-gassing of molten steel when the vessels 10, 12 and tube 32 will be refractory lined and the receiving vessel 12 will be under vacuum, a bellows 26 providing a seal.</p> |
