<p>A clamping arrangement allows the free volume of coil spring arrays, such as those used during transportation. A series of preformed wire clips (4) are located through the spring coils (2), with the loops (5, 6) located at the pitch distance (7) of the array. The complete assembly is placed between two plattens on a press, with the top platten relieved to provide access to the two top loops of the wire clips. Pressure is applied to the assembly until the springs are compressed sufficiently to permit a number of retaining rods (8) to be inserted. The technique is applicable to a number of different spring array designs.</p> |
