If a safety structure, e.g. a radiation shielding shell for the reactor building of a nuclear power station, has projecting extensions, then its respectively upper delimiting surfaces are designed to be inclined with respect to the horizontal and/or its lateral delimiting surfaces are designed to be inclined with respect to one another such that their tangential planes intersect in each case in a line located outside the structure and at a finite distance from the same. This results in the line of action of a load pulse, making contact with said delimiting surfaces at right angles, being at as small a distance as possible from the vertical centroidal axis of the structure and the mass centre of gravity, lying thereon, and the centre of gravity of the foundation surfaces, with the result that the bending vibrations and shaking caused in the structure by the load pulse are considerably reduced.
