For the production of beads (6') from a melt of a bead material (6) the latter, still essentially in solid form but already apportioned corresponding to the bead volume, is introduced into an inert and heat-resistant liquid (7). In this liquid (7) the bead material (6) is heated, in particular via the liquid (7) itself, to its melting point and in the process subjected to the surface tension. Especially well shaped beads (6') are thereby formed, which are consolidated by cooling. Expediently, the liquid (7) and bead material (6, 6') have approximately the same specific weight. In a device for carrying out the process, a heating device (25, 26) is arranged directly on a container (103) for the liquid (7). <IMAGE>
